Ambassador Rastislav Káčer
Vice President of the Atlantic Treaty Association, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Slovakia
Rastislav Káčer served as Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovakia until May 2023. He began his career in 1992 in the Slovak foreign service as an analyst and speechwriter. From 1994 to 1998, he worked at NATO headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. He became director of policy planning and then director general of security policy and multilateral affairs at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic. In 2001, he was appointed state secretary (US equivalent: undersecretary) at the Ministry of Defence and was responsible for Slovakia's negotiation process and accession to NATO. From 2003 to 2008, Rastislav Kăčer was Slovakia's ambassador to the United States. He then served as president and chairman of the Slovak Atlantic Commission (later GLOBSEC) and as Vice-President of the Atlantic Treaty Organisation. In October 2013, he was appointed Slovakia’s ambassador to Hungary, a position he held until 2018. In October 2020 he became ambassador to the Czech Republic. He is widely recognised as an expert on US domestic and foreign policy, transatlantic relations, and defence and security issues.
